But just because I’m bringing in the design ringers, it doesn’t mean I have to relinquish creative control. While the design itself will be the brainchild of a lovely design whizkid, the inspiration will come from my history and my business story. The difficulty comes in articulating this inspiration to the design professional. Here are some questions culled from logo questionnaires to help you find the right words and, consequently, the right image.
Your Business Concept
- What aspects of your business would you like your logo to reflect?
- What images come to mind when you think about your business?
- What adjectives would you use to describe your business?
- What colors do you associate with your business? What colors would you like to avoid?
Your Audience
- Who is your target market?
- How does your target market view your company?
- What feeling or message do you want your logo to convey to those who view it?
Other People’s Logos
- Who are your main competitors and how does your business differ?
- What do the logos of your main competitors look like? How would you like your logo to differ?
- Can you identify any existing logos that appeal to you? What do you like about them?
Usage
- Where will your logo be used?
- What is it’s most important use (website, business cards, marketing collateral, print ads, etc.)
Fun Stuff
- If your company/brand was a person, who would it be?
