Success in the City!

Working Women: Showcasing Female Entrepreneurs at Success in the City

As many of you know, Empowerment Group hosts a number of events each year specifically for women entrepreneurs to meet, network, and discuss the state of their business in Philadelphia. One of our premier events each year is Success in the City, where we invite leaders in the community to speak as a panel about hot topics in business. From starting up to personal motivation to the bumps in the road that all of us encounter, they cover it all, along with a hefty dose of tips and tricks for success.

This year’s event
on August 22nd is gearing up to be a great one. We’ll be hosting it from 6:00-8:00pm at the Philadelphia Argentine Tango School and featuring a number of great women entrepreneurs who will speak as part of this year’s panel. Here is a sneak peak of some of the things you can look forward to learning and the women you don’t want to miss meeting!

Della Beaver
Della Beaver is a Tru Diva! She is our panel moderator and will discuss how she’s handled starting and managing two businesses in very different industries—an independent paralegal company called DAB Paralegal Services and a women’s image consulting business. She also just finished writing her book “A Tru Diva: Living Your Life with Passion and Purpose,” a truly inspirational story about how she came to be such a diva dynamo…and how to do the same.

Valerie Erwin
Owner and Chef of Geechee Girl Rice Café in Mt. Airy, Valerie Erwin is a pioneer in her field and will be one of our panel speakers at Success and the City. Using fresh, seasonable and local ingredients she creates a wonderful array of dishes based on traditional Geechee recipes (Geechee refers to the people of African descent who settled on the coastal areas of the southeastern US who are known for their rice dishes and unique culinary history). Valerie’s commitment to local food has even extended to her backyard, where she transformed an abandoned lot behind the restaurant into a thriving flower, herb and vegetable garden. She’s an expert on the restaurant scene in Philly as well as the local food movement. You don’t want to miss her insight and inspiration for creating a business with purpose.

Ali Brody
Sitting down with Ali Brody you feel that there is nothing in the world she would rather be doing than listening to what you have to say—and that is the personal touch that has helped her holistic health and wellness coaching business thrive! Another panelist for Success in the City, Ali is the owner of Healthy Glow, a business designed to improve people’s health through their diet and eating habits. Her approach to wellness is firmly integrative. Does stress make you crave sweets or does a lack of sleep lead to you snack at night? Whatever the issue, Ali takes the time to learn each clients habits and challenges to help them create small changes that have big impact in their lives. Read the Entrepreneur Profile of Ali so you know her story before meeting her!

Light refreshments will be provided by Diane Floyd of Meal Makers Inc.

RSVP online or by calling (215) 427-9245. As always, this event is free and open to anyone interested in meeting great people and learning from other women entrepreneurs.
